Additional inscriptions
When another family member is interred in an existing grave, crypt or niche, their name and dates are added to the memorial, cut and finished to match the original lettering. It is one of the most common jobs a mason does, and far less than a new memorial.
When it's needed
A double or family grave, crypt or niche is often used again years after the first interment. The new inscription is added to the existing monument, so the family stays together on one memorial.
Matching the original
The mason matches the lettering style, size and finish (including gilding or paint) so the addition sits naturally with the original, even decades on. On weathered stone, a light clean or re-black of the existing inscription is sometimes done at the same time.
What it costs
An added inscription is quoted to the number of lines and the finish, and is much less than a new monument.
